Dirk,
I know that I will be just the first to say this, and others will probably go on with much more detail.
Use good motorcycle oil. On the motorcycle, the oil is used also to help cool the engine and is used by the clutch mechanism. The more you use the bike, the more attention you should give to keeping a good schedule.
3000 miles (4000 km ?) or 3 months, which ever comes first. That's my opinion and I'm sure other people will have some variation on this.
I have worked with very expensive equipment in manufacturing environments. Oil is as important to a machine as blood is to a person. I always knew and heard that changing oil in a car is like having insurance against breakdown, but in business where time ==$$$$$, it is amazing how much effort and priority was put into preventative maintenance programs.
$$$$$ or DM or whatever. It really, really, really makes a difference.
If you can not hassle frequent changes, use synthetic. You pay twice as much but change half as often (same cost in the end).
Also change the filter all the time. I have sometimes just changed the oil and then change the filter everyother time. This is NOT good.
Now if I could only lose 70 pounds I would not feel guilty about preaching good machine health.
Go change your oil this weekend with the good stuff. Your Suzi deserves it!!
